Welcome to Vietnamese American Center
The Vietnamese American Center—Education Recreation & Culture (VACERC) is a non-profit organization pursuant to IRC §501(c)(3). Its mission is aimed at dedicating an enrichment program focused on education, recreation, and culture for all age levels to meet the needs of the Vietnamese-American community in the San Diego County; to promote higher education, leadership skills, and social responsibility; to empower self esteem, dignity, and confidence; to reinforce family values, beliefs, and traditions; to cultivate the creativity of Vietnamese arts and culture; to enhance the health and well being of the Vietnamese-American community and other communities; and to unite the Vietnamese-American community through its common ancestral heritage.
The Vietnamese American Center is a place where members of the community could come to take lessons in languages, music, drama, choir, dance, martial arts, arts and crafts, sports, computer, etc. Our programs would also offer preschool/daycare with outdoor playgrounds, after-school tutoring, family/academic counseling, transportation, recreational activities, i.e., ping-pong, foosball, billiard, chess, bingo, karaoke, and other fun activities for the entire family. Our facilities would consist of: library, classrooms, fitness center with showers, adult/senior lounge, food service facility, game rooms, and banquet hall. It would be a place where students could come to mentor and be mentored, and it would be a place where the community could gather for cultural and special events. VACERC would also be a place where exchange of cultures and ideas take place, where the community at large could come and learn more about Vietnamese culture, and where members of the Vietnamese-American community could come to celebrate and teach the youths about Vietnamese and other cultures.
We would have security guards and surveillance cameras installed in our facilities intending to maximize the safety and protection of our members.
VACERC is in the process of negotiating a lease with the landlord and the tenant's improvement would begin shortly thereafter. We estimate that the Grand Opening of the Vietnamese American Center would be approximately in December 2015. Our programs are fee-based. Pre-enrollment of members and/or students would begin approximately in January 2016, for the aforementioned programs.
In the meantime, VACERC currently assists YMCA in its "study hall" program, which provides study time to 6th, 7th, & 8th grade students at Montgomery Middle School for the school year 2012-2013. Click here to view our partnership agreement. VACERC's tutoring services had its roots from tutoring students primarily from Montgomery Middle School, at the same time, accommodating students from other schools consisting of various grade levels, during the summer of 2011.
At this time, we are looking for volunteers to assist us with our Spring Enrichment Program 2013, which is currently being held at Wagenheim Middle School (9230 Gold Coast Drive, San Diego, CA 92126). Our regular program is held every other Saturday, beginning on March 2, 2013 and ending on July 27, 2013, between 9a.m. to 3p.m. in Room 403. Click here to learn more about Spring Enrichment Program 2013. Anyone who would like to volunteer for any of our programs please contact us by e-mail at: info@VietnameseAmericanCenter.org.
